We are the student cadets of the
The Wil Lou Gray Opportunity School
Tiger Battalion
in
West Columbia, S.C.
This past Friday, February 12, the members of Cycle 25 marched together into the auditorium to celebrate their success and receive awards. Parents and family joined us for the day to recognize this completion of Cycle 25.
We all salute you.
One of the best quotes from a speech was shared to me by someone who had attended a family members graduation. They could not remember who had been the speaker, so I cannot give credit for these few, yet so wise words...
"The past was about you,
The present is FOR you,
but the FUTURE is up to you."
We have faith in you. We believe in you and remember .....Our power is in how we choose to respond, that our lives are a product of our choices. Choose wisely. Choose well.
peace

On Tuesday, November 24th, cadets enjoyed a wonderful dinner, along with the staff and guests, to celebrate Thanksgiving. The presentation of the food was first class and everyone enjoyed the dinner prepared by our first class dining hall staff. We thank them for all of their hard work and appreciate what they do daily.
Cadets prepared to go home on pass once the dinner was concluded. Soon their families came to pick them up and take them home for Thanksgiving break. This is the first time they have been released on a pass home. Everyone was excited and ready to go. Before they left, their families had opportunity to meet with dorm staff, medical and education staff.
A video about the luncheon and one about meeting the staff have been posted to Capzles. Pictures will be posted to Picasa on Monday.

<----This group of male Cadets joined Sgt. Berry to serve meals to the homeless in Finley Park in downtown Columbia. They arrived to discover the person in charge of the organization that comes to Finley Park with food was not there... she was ill and could not come. Our cadets, who each have the appetites of three people , shared their lunches with the homeless. We are so proud of them.

<----- JROTC gave the students an opportunity to hear from officers of the University of South Carolina ROTC program. See the JROTC page.
Check with us on a regular basis because now is when so much begins to happen.
Many emotions are present this day. We welcome this new group of Cadets and are proud they are here. Much has changed since this warm July day.
We stand in line and wait and then we sit and wait. We sometimes talk to help pass the time AND calm our nerves.
(Some, who were here this day, have gone home.)
Once our families left, we learned how to stand and walk in a line and procedure, procedure, procedure.
Everything is done a certain way.. the way we stand, walk, make our bed, get our meals and more.
But there is also time for play and laughter and chillin' and fun.
Check out Schoolhouse Rock for more about school. Open Activites for for pictures and information about events and daily life.
PS!!!!!!! Be sure to always open Picasa and Picasa pics by Ms Janicki. You can download these and print them or order prints. Remmeber that ech cadet will receive a DVD yearbook and a PICTURE CD. Not all pictures on Picasa will be on the CD. Most videos in Capzle.com will be on the DVD.
